To begin disassembling your rifle, you must first remove the receiver cover. Press in the tab that protrudes from the receiver cover and lift up on the cover to seperate it from the receiver.
Now it's time to remove the recoil spring assembly. Press forward on the recoil spring tab until it slides out of the grooves that contain it, then pull the assembly rearward and out of the bolt carrier.
With the recoil spring out of the way, you can now remove the bolt carrier group. Move the safety selector downward into the 'fire' position. This will allow you to slide the bolt carrier group completely rearward and remove it from the receiver. To seperate the bolt from the carrier, simply rotate it until it unlocks, then slide it forward away from the carrier.
You have just completed a basic field strip of the AK rifle. If doing routine maintenance or cleaning, you generally won't have to break down the rifle any further than this point and may begin basic reassembly. For those of you who want to completely tear down your rifle, click the link below.
